IT Uses PMO to Manage Large Scale Technology Upgrade
An information technology group decided to modernize its technology platform requiring a number of technical projects over a span of years. A Program Management Office (PMO) provided an umbrella management structure to integrate projects where necessary and maintain controls to ensure their investment was being maximized and stewarded properly.
ProjectLead created a PMO to manage all projects within a common infrastructure.
ProjectLead developed policies and procedures for project managers to follow to standardize methods for running projects.
ProjectLead regularly conducted status reports on the overall program with the program's executive steering committee.
RESULTS
Consistency
Common methods across multiple projects enabled a consistent look and feel making it easier for members to cross into different project teams.
Big Picture View
Rolling up and reporting on all projects at a program level helped executives see the big picture and manage high priority exceptions instead of all the detail.
Investment Stewardship
Meeting goals at a program level encouraged project teams to deliver on their portion of the bigger pie.
